Madison Cowan Studio

Est. 2024 Bakersfield, CA

At Madison Cowan Studio LLC, we are a teaching studio dedicated to expanding access to the arts for all. We welcome youth and adults of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, with thoughtful accommodations available for those who need additional support in their learning experience.

Our studio provides arts education in drawing, oil painting, printmaking, and more, with an emphasis on meeting each student where they are. We value flexibility in instruction, encouraging individual pace, process-based learning, and creative confidence in a supportive environment.

Alongside our educational programs, we offer private commissions and continue to build a community rooted in creativity, inclusion, and the belief that art should be accessible to everyone.

This studio space is founded on the belief that everyone is capable of creativity. We provide artistic opportunities not only for the art-curious, practicing artists, and art lovers, but also for individuals who experience life with physical, cognitive, and learning differences. We are passionate about creating accessible creative experiences and building meaningful connections within and beyond the special needs community.

Owner Madison Cowan experiences life with Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, and ADHD - differences she deeply credits as central to her creative practice and lifelong learning. These experiences shape her teaching philosophy and commitment to accessibility in the arts.

She believes:
“Our abilities and life experiences do not hinder our opportunities to grow, but instead create space for innovation, resilience, and transformation. Art removes limitations from the equation, offering equal opportunity to anyone who dares to pursue it.”

About Madison

Madison Cowan is a multidisciplinary artist, educator, and advocate whose practice spans oil painting, printmaking, illustration, and photography. She founded Madison Cowan Studio in 2024 with a focus on expanding equitable access to the arts, particularly for individuals with physical, cognitive, and learning differences, alongside broader community engagement.

Cowan’s work engages themes of impressionism, environmental awareness, and the evolving relationship between urban and rural landscapes. Through observational and process-driven approaches, she translates lived experience and environment into expressive visual forms.

Her practice is informed by lived experience with Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, and ADHD, which she regards as integral to her creative thinking and artistic development. These perspectives also shape her pedagogical approach, emphasizing accessibility, adaptability, and inclusive arts education.

Across both studio practice and teaching, Cowan positions art as an accessible and transformative medium - to fosters connection, learning, and creative agency beyond conventional barriers.
